We went to the doctor for the weekly checkup up today. After some poking around, we were told that Aivy will be here anytime this week now. In fact, he's willing to bet that she'll be here by this Sunday. Since my (Linh's) body is ready for the delivery he offered to schedule an inducement this Sunday if she doesn't come by then. I passed on the offer and told him I'll think about it after her due date, which is next Tuesday, the 23rd.
In the meantime, I went home, took a nap and hoped that Aivy would wait until after the icy winter storm passed to be born. Doug on the other hand, is very excited and the anticipation is killing him. If I didn't know better, I would think that he's the one that's going into labor!
So after two consecutive weeks of lame cervical exam results, (only 1 centimeter of dilation both times) today the doctor said that Aivy is 50% effaced, the mucous plug is gone, and the dilation is a full 2 centimeters! It was incredible. We both are ready and very, very excited. Of course now, we have to wait until Linh goes into full labor...during a big ice storm. We hope that bad weather during a birth is a good omen-- like rain on a wedding day. And what better way to wait out a big ice storm than by witnessing the birth of your first child!
